I love a fresh start and can always be found writing New Year’s Resolutions towards the end of a weary December when the decorations start to wilt (rarely do I follow them through), but May is my true start to the year. I am a bit of a Beltane lover, relishing the significance of shifting seasons from dark and cold to warm and light.
The countryside celebrates too bringing forth a riot of flowers and buzzing insects that glory in the long awaited sun.
My husband spent all bank holiday weekend securing his treasured fruit bushes under an enveloping coat of net to protect them from the birds only to find that, not only could the birds still get in and help themselves to the burgeoning fruit but could not then escape and so the whole lot had to be removed. I sometimes feel life is a bit like that.
But the birds still sing, the bees still buzz and I now see how dirty my windows have become over the murky winter season.
